Meal Plan FAQ
What is a Meal Plan?
Simply put a Meal Plan is pre-paid account that is loaded with Meal Swipes, and in most instances Flex Dollars, onto your Bronco ID card for campus dining. Currently Boise State University offers two types of Meal Plans; Weekly and Block. A Weekly Meal Plan is required for first-year students who live on campus and many others purchase Block Meal Plans for the convenience, benefit and cost savings.
What are the differences between Weekly and Block Meal Plans?
Meal Swipes for the week are loaded each Monday morning for Weekly Meal Plans. One swipe per meal period is allowed and any unused Swipes expire at midnight on Sunday. Block Meal Plan Meal Swipes are loaded at the time of purchase, can be used any time and expire one year from the date of purchase.
What is a Meal Swipe?
A Meal Swipe provides access to the all-you-care-to-eat Boise River Café or can be used for a Meal Equivalency option at select locations
What is a Meal Period?
Those with a Weekly Meal Plan may use one Meal Swipe per Meal Period. Each day is divided into Meal Periods; Breakfast 7 – 11 a.m. (8 a.m. on weekdays), Lunch 11 a.m. -2 p.m., Mid-day 2 – 4 p.m., Dinner 4 – 9 p.m. and Late Night 9 p.m. – 1 a.m.
What is a Meal Equivalency?
In addition to using a Meal Swipe at SouthFork and the all-you-care-to-eat Boise River Café, Meal Plan holders may use a swipe at a select on campus retail locations for specific items. You many also see or hear “Meal Replacement” or “Meal Exchange”, these are the same as Meal Equivalency.
What are Flex Dollars?
Weekly Meal Plans and the Bronco 45 Meal Plan come with a select amount of Flex Dollars. They are accepted at all campus retail food locations for any food purchase, good through the school year and additional Bonus Flex Dollars can be added at any time with a 10% discount.
What is a Guest Pass?
In addition to Meal Swipes and Flex Dollars, each Weekly Meal Plan comes with 16 Guest Passes per semester. These can only be used in the same capacity as Meal Swipes for visiting family members and/or friends at the Boise River Café.
How do I purchase a Meal Plan or Bonus Flex Dollars?
Students living on campus are able to sign up through their MyHousing account. Block Meal Plans and Bonus Flex Dollars can be purchased in person at the Information Desk or online. The Information Desk is located on campus in the Student Union Building on the first floor. Additional information available by calling 208 426-4636. There are NO REFUNDS allowed on all plan purchases. All meals must be used within one year from the date of purchase; any remaining meals/flex will be forfeited. Meals/Flex remaining at the time that the student, faculty, or staff relationship with Boise State is terminated will be forfeited.
How do I use my Meal Plan or Flex Dollars?
Like a debit or credit card, present your Bronco ID Card to the cashier for access to Boise River Café or to make purchases at any campus retail location. They will swipe your card to deduct a Meal Swipe or Flex Dollars from your account.
How do I change my Meal Plan?
Students living on campus can change their Meal Plan through their My Housing Portal on or before the 10th class day each semester.
Can I get a refund?
There are NO REFUNDS allowed on all plan purchases. All meals must be used within one year from the date of purchase; any remaining meals/flex will be forfeited. Meals/Flex remaining at the time that the student, faculty, or staff relationship with Boise State is terminated will be forfeited.
Can you accommodate my allergies and special dietary needs?
